“The Lady’s Geography” first describes two islands: Amboyna (present-day Ambon Island in Indonesia), in the first five installments of the eight-part series that is the longest in the magazine, and Ceylon (present-day Sri Lanka) in the second half of the series.
Because this section mirrors the periodical’s title, it is possible that Lennox might have written “The Lady’s Geography” herself, Susan Carlile speculates in her Lennox biography. To present the “Lady’s Geography” content in as interesting a light as possible, and to show that the Museum is carefully curated to not only “instruct” but also to “entertain” as the Trifler writes early on, like a DJ that plays a new song between two popular hits to acclimate listeners’ tastes, so too does this periodical position this curriculum between the reliable book-ends of two already-respected French works.
